Gabriel Beaudry's Desk

Meet Gabriel Beaudry. An entrepreneur and full time student from Montreal.

It is not the first time that I’ve been inspired by a white desk. I love how it gives the whole room a feeling of more space. Besides the nice color contrast of Gabriel’s setup, his desk receives a great deal of natural light because of its position between the two windows. Definitely some cool inspiration here for future updates on my own setup.

Let’s take a look.

Who are you and what do you do for a living?

Hey, my name is Gabriel and I am an entrepreneur from Montreal. I am also a full time student in Business Administration. I have a web agency (InnovWeb) where we do some branding and marketing but mainly we create websites for companies. I love to experiment and create new companies to develop and learn different skills. For example, I started a lifestyle accessories company known as Strike & Sea to experiment with product photography, client satisfaction / experience / relation and commerce.

Can you tell me something about your desk setup?

I’ve been using this setup for about two years now and I still love it. I’ve only updated the iMac from a 27 inch Dell monitor that I had connected with my MacBook Air. I really like the Apple ecosystem because the products are clean, intuitive and fast. I am also a fan of Bose since I appreciate good sound quality. I am really proud of what I have accomplished when I built this room, it really reflects me. It’s a mix of different styles that I really appreciate: modern, minimal and industrial. When someone enters this room they are able to get a brief overview of who I am. Finally, another thing I really like is that my desk is located between two windows which is useful when I am tired of looking at a screen.

Is there anything you would like to improve on this setup?

Since my setup is located in my bedroom, there’s not a lot of space for expansion or anything. Of course I would like to have three monitors and all, but I would consider it a whole new setup. As of now, this setup is complete, however, I would like to upgrade my MacBook Air to a MacBook Pro, but I am waiting for a newer version.

Do you switch workspaces during your day? If yes, what’s the reason behind it?

Depending on the task I need to accomplish. If the task doesn’t need a lot of concentration, I take my MacBook Air, sit on the couch and watch Netflix, because I try relaxing while working. When I need to be efficient I will stay at my desk for the time needed. A bigger screen is way more efficient!

Can you tell us something about the items on your desk?

The Grovemade products make this desk really nice. Everything you see made out of wood in my setup is a product from Grovemade. The wood accent on the white desk really stands out.

What are you doing to stay focused?

I stay hydrated and I take breaks when I need to change my mind and eat a snack when I’m hungry.

Is there something on your desk which helps you stay focused? What is it?

I love nature and I would say that my plant helps me to stay focused. I see it grow over time and it makes me think of what I can do to improve myself and learn new things.

What was your latest self improvement experiment?

Personally, I wasn’t doing enough exercise so I started running every day. I use the Nike Running app to keep track of all my stats and it’s really motivating. My next objective will be to ride my bike more often.

Where do you see yourself and your desk in the next 5 years?

In 5 years, I would like to a have created a tech startup and have an office with great employees. My home office would have a dedicated room for it and it would be completely different from the one I have now. Products would probably be the same (they would only be newer versions) and I would add two monitors to have a total of three.
