Anthony Garand's Desk

Hi. I’m Anthony Garand. I’m a front-end web developer.

Can you tell me something about your desk setup?

I’ve been fine-tuning my setup for the last few years. It’s constantly evolving and I’m sure will change soon after writing this up. The magic happens underneath the desk, I’ve got a power strip, USB hub, DVD drive, HDMI splitter, and Digital to Analog audio converter all double-taped to the bottom of the desk. There is a PS3 sitting under there as well that hooks into the HDMI splitter so that I can share the right monitor between my computer and my PS3 for occasional gaming and streaming.

The actual desk is just an old particleboard IKEA desk mounted to the wall. It’s setup as a standing desk, but I’m sitting in my Aeron stool most of the time.

Is there anything you would like to improve on this setup?

I want to replace the desk with the solid wood butcher block IKEA Gerton table soon. I’m also considering moving the monitor on the right over to the left and adding a Dell U2515 on the right side. I’m always looking at how I can add more screens to my setup.

Is there something on your desk which helps you stay focused? What is it?

I would say the thing that helps me stay focused the most is my chair. It’s a fully-loaded Herman Miller Aeron stool, which is a lot better than the cheap stool I had previously. I can sit for hours comfortably now without feeling any back pain and it has also helped improve my posture.
